The North Staffs Ski Club was established over 30 years ago and owns all of the equipment and facilities at the centre. The club is operated by skiers for skiers. The staff and instructors are all volunteer members who give up their time in order to operate the centre for the benefit of all other club members. In 2004 we received a lottery grant which has enabled us to remove the old ski surface (can be seen in the photo below), re grade the slope and fit a new carpet type ski surface (Playgrass) which is safer and more like snow. The club operates the slope on a non profit making basis with all the revenue being used to further improve the slope, facilities and equipment. Our aim is promote the sport of skiing and provide affordable skiing at the lowest possible prices, which we believe to be the lowest in the country. The club also organises social events such as bike rides, club walks, camping weekends, club holidays and much more. Details of these events can usually be seen in the ‘What’s On’ page, in the club’s regular newsletter or on the notice boards in the ski lodge. The slope is 85 metres long and is serviced by a button type ski lift with an uplift rate of approximately 500 skiers per hour. The ski surface is a new development and is much more like snow as well as being safer to ski on. The slope is also fully flood lit so we can operate in all weathers day or night. There is a ski lodge with tea shop and a superb family atmosphere. |
