Freestyle
For safety reasons, will be asked to demonstrate your ability of these standards before you ski and or board without supervision.
OTHER STANDARDS
Recreational Standards Met in Full
Use of the freestyle slope is only permitted if the user has already met and demonstrated ability of the full Recreational Performance Standard Criteria for skiing or snowboarding.
Demonstrated Freestyle Experience
Users must have prior experience riding freestyle features (e.g., small jumps, boxes, or rails) and must understand basic freestyle technique, including takeoff, air awareness, and controlled landings.
Confident on Variable Features
Must be able to approach, ride, and exit features of varying sizes and types with balance, flow, and confidence—without hesitation or stopping on features.
Can Assess and Choose Appropriate Features
Must be capable of selecting features suited to their current ability level. Riders should demonstrate sound judgement and avoid features that exceed their skill set.
Controls Air and Landings Safely
Must be able to take off, remain balanced in the air, and land with control on both straight and angled landings, without crashing or over/undershooting.
Capable of Riding Rails and Boxes
Riders must be able to approach, mount, and dismount rails and boxes with consistent control, using safe entry angles and proper technique.
Wears a Helmet at All Times
A correctly fitted helmet is required when using any freestyle features, regardless of experience or feature size. Additional protection (e.g., back protector, gum shield) is recommended.
Understands Freestyle Area Etiquette
Must wait their turn, call out drops when needed, and never drop into a feature without ensuring the run is clear. Lingering on landings, takeoffs or within the feature zone is strictly prohibited.
Can Fall and Recover Safely
Must know how to fall safely (e.g., avoiding hands first or stiff landings), and be able to exit the landing area quickly and without assistance after a fall.
Understands Progression and Limits
Riders are expected to follow a safe progression—starting small and building up as confidence and control increase. Attempting tricks or features beyond one’s skill level is not permitted.
Listens to Coaching and Staff Guidance
Must be willing to accept feedback and follow instructions from coaches or slope staff regarding safe use, technique, or temporary feature closures.
Note: These standards are in place for your safety and the safety of others. If you’re unsure about your ability to meet any of the above, we recommend booking a lesson with one of our qualified instructors before joining in on an activity that requires the criteria of this performance standard.
