Performance Standards
Recreation
For safety reasons, will be asked to demonstrate your ability of these standards before you ski and or board without supervision.
Can Perform Basic Turns with Control
Must be able to confidently link turns (e.g., snowplough for skiers or basic turns for snowboarders) while maintaining balance and control throughout.
Able to Control Speed and Direction at All Times
Must demonstrate the ability to manage speed and direction independently across the slope using turning and edging techniques—not by relying on stopping alone.
Can Start, Stop and Change Direction Safely
Must be able to safely come to a controlled stop when required and alter course without putting others at risk.
Can Self-Recover from a Fall
Must be capable of getting up unaided after a fall and rejoining the slope safely and promptly, without assistance from instructors or other slope users.
Has Previous Experience on Skis or Snowboard
Participants must have prior skiing or snowboarding experience, either through lessons or previous recreational practice, and be comfortable with slope etiquette and equipment.
Can Use a Drag Lift Without Assistance
Must be able to safely mount, ride, and dismount a drag lift independently, showing awareness of personal space and other lift users.
Can Perform a Controlled Emergency Stop
Must be able to demonstrate a quick and safe stop when needed, using appropriate technique for skiing or snowboarding.
Understands and Follows our Ski Way Code
Must know and follow our ski way code including awareness of surroundings, other slope users, and designated areas.
Able to Overtake with Awareness and Safety
Must be capable of overtaking slower slope users while maintaining a safe distance and ensuring full control throughout the manoeuvre.
